peer probe: failed: Error through RPC layer, retry again later
I was working with glusterfs.
When I attempted to probe a System where glusterd was already running, I was getting this error.
peer probe: failed: Error through RPC layer, retry again later
When I checked forums, people suggested to check version of gluster between two systems. GlusterFS Server was having version 3.5.2 and Client was with 3.2.7. So at Client I removed older version and installed newer version from Source.
After this, I probed Server from Client again, Now Probe Operation was success.

Another cause would be due to software firewall (iptables) blocking ports.
